Tarash (Bengaliতাড়াশ) is an Upazila of Sirajganj District in the Division of RajshahiBangladesh

Geography
Tarash is located at 24.4333°N 89.3750°E . It has 26254 households and total area 297.2 km².

Demographics
As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Tarash has a population of 195964 . Males are 99,240, and females are 96,724. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 98421. Tarash has an average literacy rate of 39% (7+ years), and the national average of 60.0% literate.[2]

Tarash has 8 Unions/Wards, 179 Mauzas/Mahallas, and 277 villages.

Tarash Upazila

Tarash Upazila (sirajganj district) area 297.20 sq km, located in between 24°20' and 24°34' north latitudes and in between 89°15' and 89°26' east longitudes. It is bounded by sherpur (bogra) upazila on the north, bhangura and chatmohar upazilas on the south, raiganj and ullahpara upazilas on the east, gurudaspur and singra upazilas on the west.
Population Total 167647; male 84896, female 82751; Muslim 151903, Hindu 15509, Buddhist 204 and others 31.
Administration Tarash Thana was turned into an upazila in 1983.

History of the War of Liberation During the war of liberation in 1971 a battle was fought between the freedom fighters and the Pak army at Naogaon in which 130 Pak soldiers and Razakars were killed.

Main exports Paddy, rice, fish, watermelon.
Access to electricity All the unions of the upazila are under rural electrification net-work. However 20.93% of the dwelling households have access to electricity.
Sources of drinking water Tube-well 95.48%, tap 0.21%, pond 0.18% and others 4.13%.
Sanitation 18.96% (rural 17.37% and urban 64.09%) of dwelling' households of the upazila use sanitary latrines and 71.85% (rural 73.29% and urban 31.09%) of dwelling' households use non-sanitary latrines; 9.19% of households do not have' latrine facilities.

Natural disasters Many people were victims of the famines of 1897, 1943 and 1974. Besides, the earthquakes of 1885 and 1897 caused heavy damages to settlements and other properties of the upazila.
